PostSubject: Wanted water troughs   Mon Jun 01, 2009 1:28 pm

Howdee, I am after some baths or similar as three of our rusted out within a month!

No rush as everyone is agisted out at the moment.

Not looking for anything flash as we are on a budget and it is not our property. ( Dad wants flash dad can buy flash. I want functional)

We could prob do with three or four as we are putting in some new yards.

PM me if you have any leads on some!

Cheers, Jess

Hi if you can get hold of some 44 gallon drums, the blue plastic ones, cut them in half long ways and use 2 pieces of board in front and behind to make stable, cut some hose or water pipe in half and put around top edge & add your trough float and away you go. These are great as they are tough and won't rust, just make sure that you ask what they have had in them if you find some, as you don't want them if they've had toxic chemicals in them , you can buy bulk mollasses & zinc in them, so i'd ask any farmers if you know any or ask at your local feed store. We got heaps of them over here but a bit far away for you sorry. You should be able to get these for not much if anything at all.

Thanks for that, But we don't get enough water in them! Between the two ponies and the moo they often are empty by the end of the day in summer. We don't have a float system set up sadly.

You should add that in the comp thread though! Good money saving tip!

How far is your paddock from your nearest tap? Just asking because you can buy the floats that attach to your normal garden hose connections, if you could run a hose accross to it that would save you a lot of stress through summer. Good luck.

Hey Julie, our place is really badly set up. so taps aren't very close to most.

The other problem is Guy and Diana ( the cow) feel compulsed to fiddle with taps, we're on rainwater so when they turn them on in summer it puts us in the poo.

Thanks anyway!
