PostSubject: looking for pink parrot?   Thu Feb 26, 2009 9:23 am

Hey guys,
a few months ago i saw a pair of of pink parrots with grey necks for sale in the pet store, how ever heading into the city wasn't able to inquire on what species they were, well now i can't find anything similar.

wondering if any one out there knows of any pink parrots. they were a little bit bigger than a love bird and had a whistle similar to a budgie. they are not ring necks, gala's etc.. and the pet shop has no idea what i was talking about.. new staff.. grr.

all i can remember from the label on their cage was rose....

well went to the pet shop on O'Sullivans beach road.. turns out they were rose Burkes. and not as nice as what i remembered them to be.. oh wells, pepper i would love one but they are way too HUGE and out of my price range for a bird.. would rather buy a nice dressage saddle hehehe

but instead of the pink bird i have put an order in for 2 hand raised baby Quaker parrots, one in green and one in blue... now just need to wait til they hatch and grow... (gives me some time to save hehe $475 for green and $495 for a blue each... )

oh that's good the Quaker parrots look beautiful, really nice colours. goodness they are expensive though!! you must really like birds.
I just got the good old boring cockatiel, poor bugger is a really ugly one too but I love her all the same, hand raised her too. occasionally does a wolf whistle but always whistles and chirps and carries on when she hears that i am home. Got friggin issues though...........she pulls her flight feathers out from her wings and her tail!!! scratch they grow back eventually and then she rips them out again, so bad it looks like a murder has happened, blood splatter all over the walls around the cage and in cage, lots of bloody feathers all over the place too.
Don't know why??? spoken to the local vet who is a bird freak and so "Willy" gets hung up outside under the pagola during the day, gets freash greens, cuttle fish, new toys. a mirror too............still bloody does it!! Grrr.
anyhoo she is still lovely, very tame and I just love the noises of a bird, any bird.
Will look forward to the pics of your new Quakers

aww poor little bird.Is it lonely? Maybe a feathered friend could be the answer. My niece had a MALE budgie that was stressed out, feather pulling etc.He ended up laying an egg! Vet said he was acting out because he was lonely and needed a mate. Not sure what happened to him in the end......

Hmmmm yeah I thought about getting her a friend but am worried that she might not like it or the feather pulling may continue???

Also while she is in a fairly big cage not sure if it's suitable for two cockatiels. I have been looking at buying a small aviary but then I like having her inside too especially when it's boiling hot outside or freezing cold..........
Hey possum you still got that little cockatiel?/ have the kids fallen in love with it yet? if ya don't wanna kep it I got one messed up birdy that could do with the company.......might cope better than your galah Razz

yes they are some expensive birdies, but they have been hand raised so i guess thats alright..

maybe your little fella is being irritated by a mite? when i used to breed budgies they came down with mights once or twice, pick em up from the wild birds. a trip to the local pet shop could fix it have some sprays and water additives...

or maybe a buddy will fix its issues?

I was reading through some pages on the net and found this....
www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww4eii.htm

It has a lot of reasons and possible treatments for feather pulling. Maybe some of the info can help your little bird.

thanks dreama that was an interesting article and I have tried a lot of the things suggested. I.e new toys and interesting things in cage. i have spoken to a vet about it and was given several leaflets.

At first we thought it might be stress coz the cats live inside too and she may be feeling threatened so hook was put up outside and she goes outside daily and sleeps in at night. she is very happy little birdy and whistles and eats, plays etc etc look very healthy too and doesn't pull out any other feathers anywhere else on her body just the flight feathers in her wings and tail. when they have gone she doesn't touch any other feathers and is quite normal then as soon as they grow back......boom rips them all out again. Poor little messed up brain. Rolling Eyes
Her cage is cleaned out every week, she gets fresh water morning and night, fresh seed every two days, new toys were put in, she gets fresh greens and cuttle fish.
I will try and find her a stick to use as a perch too
Like I said before I have thought about getting her a friend but my fear too is that she will still do it and then maybe the new birdy might learn from her and do it too.
like I said she appears to be totally happy and normal apart from this.
