Hi Ashlee, I have a bay standie gelding that I am going to sell, just made the decision yesterday so haven't advertised him yet. He is around 15.1. He hasn't had much work - I only ride him maybe once or twice a month, I am still a beginner and a nervous rider. Even though he reacts to my nerves I have never felt scared or unsafe on him. I also let my 12yr old daughter ride him off lead in the round yard (he is actually her horse but she needs something more laid back as she is a beginner as well). One thing though - he really needs company near by if not in the same paddock, and he is nervey himself. He really doesn't like going out trail riding without another horse, however I don't know if it is because of my inexperience and I haven't wanted to push the point with him.
When I got Billy we used to ride him weekly and he was good with trotting etc, even got a nice looking canter with my daughter on board until her saddle slipped and she came off - he stopped next to her and waited for us to fix the problem lol. Since we now ride very occassionally he seems to have forgotten how to trot nicely, or is smart enough to throw in a pace or two to annoy me, and I don't have the balance/knowledge on how to change this.
His racing name was Harmer Court, foaled 1/9/97 if you want to look him up.
I am wanting around $500.00 for him and we are situated in Compton, about 10 kms out of Mount Gambier if you are interested and we are close enough for you. He has no vices - actually will lick your hand like a dog lol. Excellent with his feet, I trim them myself and get the farrier every 6 mths to make sure I'm still doing it right. One cute quirk is that he will back up to you for a bum scratch, to the point of actually nudging you with his hind end.
In my opinion he would be suited to a confident beginner/novice if out riding with another person, or someone with the experience to teach him that it is ok to be "out and about".
If you are interested send me a message & I can give you a ring.
If not, then I hope you find your new friend soon.
Cheers
