My OH is currently training as a Farrier, he is doing TAFE & working with a well respected Master Farrier 2-3 days a week.

He needs to practise more trimming on quiet horses with no existing (known) hoof problems. He just asks for petrol money for his services. He is very careful with horses' feet & communicates with you before he does anything & while he's doing it!

PM me if interested! Very Happy

Good luck to him Wellwisher!!! If he gets a few clients and they are happy with him he will be set for when his training is finished! Good farriers are hard to locate and keep - they tend to do their backs and knees in or move just when you get your horses feet just right! Smile lol....

I wish him all the best Smile Am a bit far away over here! Unless you and hubby want a weekend away at some point! Smile

Good luck! Smile I do have one very quiet boy who is an angel for the farrier (my farrier gives him cuddles and kisses he loves him so much! Razz) but he had his feet done only 2 weeks ago I think.

Thanks guys (& OH says thanks too)!

Spiderpig he is heading to Meadows to do Tappy's mare on Sat, would it suit you if he visited you too?

Sonz78 he said he's happy to go to Goolwa.

Courtleigh he may be willing to make a day of it & head up your way, it's a long way but seeing as you have quite a few it would probably be worth it. He said he could check out Horse Shoes-R-Us while he's up there.

If you'd like to email him - harlann (@) adam (.) com (.) au (remove brackets & spaces), you can exchange phone numbers, or add on FB etc...

And thanks as well Shell, FOTR & Binca, he will need to continue practising regularly so if anyone else has just had theirs done but would be willing for him to do them in a few weeks, let him know. Smile

Thanks to the help of some of the above lovely forum members & their equally lovely horses, Harlan is now proficient at trimming & offering his services for $20 per trim (at this stage - will increase as his qualifications progress).

He also has all the tools he needs (including a shiny new anvil) for basic shoeing. He won't be offering full sets yet but is available in the southern area to replace lost shoes - if you still have the shoe! He will be carrying around some secondhand spares but not stocking his own shoes just yet.

He's doing a fantastic job trimming my barefoot dressage horse, his feet look the best they've been in ages, & he's also now shoeing Spud's fronts himself & was very chuffed to be trusted to put a front shoe on a 4**** eventer recently! Very Happy

Well, I will definitely keep him in mind if my farrier ever can't get to me for some reason. Smile
