My OH is currently training as a Farrier, he is doing TAFE & working with a well respected Master Farrier 2-3 days a week.

He needs to practise more trimming on quiet horses with no existing (known) hoof problems. He just asks for petrol money for his services. He is very careful with horses' feet & communicates with you before he does anything & while he's doing it!

Good luck to him Wellwisher!!! If he gets a few clients and they are happy with him he will be set for when his training is finished! Good farriers are hard to locate and keep - they tend to do their backs and knees in or move just when you get your horses feet just right! lol....

yeah WW thats fine there are 2 he can do at mine. Both very quiet to do... I'm just on Hillyfields road opposite wicks road.

Thanks to the help of some of the above lovely forum members & their equally lovely horses, Harlan is now proficient at trimming & offering his services for $20 per trim (at this stage - will increase as his qualifications progress).

He also has all the tools he needs (including a shiny new anvil) for basic shoeing. He won't be offering full sets yet but is available in the southern area to replace lost shoes - if you still have the shoe! He will be carrying around some secondhand spares but not stocking his own shoes just yet.

He's doing a fantastic job trimming my barefoot dressage horse, his feet look the best they've been in ages, & he's also now shoeing Spud's fronts himself & was very chuffed to be trusted to put a front shoe on a 4**** eventer recently!
