| Don't think you need a traditional western type horse to try western do you? I'm a gunnerdo type person as well JOH. I want to try everything. I ridden western trained horses, I do pleasure riding and am learning about the Clydesdales and harness but also would love to try endurance.
I've never been "into" a particular discipline so they all fascinate me. And even though I would love to buy a horse that has all the work done for me, I have not yet paid more than $1000.00 for a horse. I might if we lived on easy street but so far have not found it necessary to spend this amount.
Sometimes it is not easy to find the horse we want to build a lasting relationship with. They all have different personalities and we each need to find one that we click with. Good luck in your search JOH. |

| I do have to admit that my girl cost me under $1000 and she's turned out to be my ideal horse. I am always getting comments on how much people like her and she's turned out to be a quiet horse and I feel my confidence building on her more all the time. None of the horses I have at the moment cost over $1000. I don't think it matters what you spend on a horse it matters how well you bond. You could spend $1000's and still not get a good horse or you could spend $500 and get the perfect horse for you. The right horse is out there just waiting for you and when you find it you'll know. |

| Pffffttttt "Typical Standy" - take my OH's...that'll show you there's no such thing!
Very good idea to take someone with some knowledge with you, and to GO and SEE the horse first. And an even better idea to ASK questions about it. Ask about anything & everything, this will not only give you a better understanding of the horse (and seller depending on how they do or don't answer questions!) but it will help you to sell the horse should you need too. ie: has this mare done any harness - its a big question for most STB's. And there reg name/breeding - as STB's are becoming a bigger industry (yes yes....whatever to all the non-STB ppl...this isn't about that!) people will want to know about the breeding lines. If there's been a horse shown in spphasa and has done really well, people would be keen on a sibling to such horse. Yes I realise that this doesn't necessarily mean it will also do well, but people will look for breeding.
And no, you don't need a "western" horse to do western on. That depends on how high you want to go through the showing levels. Some horses simply *can't* lope or jog! But for low/beginner levels take any horse! I remember seeing TB's & Arabs showing at Western shows. But the big thing is: Try before you buy! If you've got other horses/children you can ask to take the horse on a 2 weeks trial or something. Obviously, if the horse is under $1000 the sellers probably wont be too keen on that. But, there's no harm in asking. Or you can go to their place & spend time with the horse instead, just so you can get a better idea.
Sorry about the novel! Good luck selling her, perhaps contact the people you got her off & get the info that people have been asking about. Brand / reg name / breeding etc would be a start. |

| I say typical standie as most of the people I know have them and they are so quite.. As for buying unseen, stupid on my part something I will never do again.. As I found out most people will say whatever when they are trying to sell a horse
I will definately be taking others with me if I decide to get another horse..
Western is something I would like to try along with barrells & small jumps but if I don't do it I'm not going to loose any sleep over.. Most people would love to try things they have never done before.
Well her previous owner I asked her about brands & breeding and they know nothing..
