| Well, I can recommend the Deverajas at any rate. I have one who is just awesome and I'm so happy with her. Either of those stallions would be a great pick up for a smalller stud. I'm actually not that surprised with the news, although sad to see him shut down. He sold off some of his good family-bred mares at the same sale a couple of years ago which even had the staff surprised. At that sale were the dam and full brother to my girl...the gelding went as an eventer to the south east somewhere. If anyone knows how he's going, I'd love to hear back...he's Deveraja/Dark Lane (can't remember but think he was Crafty Raja?) The TB breeding industry is very tough at the moment but particularly in SA. Guess we might see him out on the hunt field more often now! |

| Yeah, I did get to meet her and she seemed such a lovely natured girl. I have her first foal, Alice Magic. She has a full sister somewhere (Crafty Lane) and the full brother is Crafty Raja. Then she had a few Akhadans, but they didn't seem to do as well as the Deverajas. Trevor seemed very fond of that family and when I told him I had Magic, he remembered her very well...which isn't surprising because she certainly stood out for having the most ridiculously long legs as a yearling. She looked like she was on stilts!!! She ended up spot on 17h...not really sure where she got that height from, especially as a first foal, but it seems she's going to pass it on as her own first foal is going to end up at least as tall (from a 16.2h sire).
Waffling now... |

| Every now and then some of the Akhadans get freakishly tall! When i was there we had one that came out jet black (both parents bay, all siblings bay) and was about 16.2 as a yearling! Hes now rising 4 and his owner is too scared to measure him! To put it this way, she previously had a TB gelding who was measured at an EFA measuring day at 17.2 and 3/4 and this one towers over him....
Have spoken to the stud and i think its mainly just the broodies going to sales. There are some really nice mares out there, im going over on Wednesday and going to take some piccies of all the mares.
A few weeks ago Trevor was saying about offering his stallions to breed performance horses, so im not sure whats going on with that. Lots of people have issues with the Deveraja's but i have never really had a big issue with any of them. They can just be a bit touchy sometimes, and need correct handling. (like any horse really....) |
